Community engagement, teamwork, and empathy are at the heart of Tulane’s approach to nursing education. In the video message below, Dr. Brenda Douglas, Dean of the Tulane School of Medicine’s Program of Nursing, discusses the powerful mission behind Tulane’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (aBSN) program and why now, more than ever, New Orleans needs nurses trained with purpose and intention.
Let Tulane Help You Launch Your Nursing Career
Become a Practice-Ready Nurse in Just 16 Months
Tulane’s aBSN program arose from the university’s broader commitment to revitalize downtown New Orleans as a center for healthcare education and service. With a deep-rooted history of community engagement, Tulane sees the nursing program as a natural extension of its mission to improve health outcomes across the city and region.
Students in the aBSN program are immersed in both rigorous academic training and hands-on clinical experiences throughout New Orleans. Working alongside medical students and faculty in the School of Medicine, nursing students benefit from an integrated, team-based approach to patient care. With clinical placements across the local area and rich community-based learning opportunities, students don’t just study in New Orleans — they live, serve, and grow here.
This 16-month full-time program is designed for those who are ready to make an immediate impact. Backed by strong institutional support and partnerships with local leaders, Tulane’s nursing program prepares students to become practice-ready nurses with the skills and heart to care for diverse populations.
“We want students to feel so enamored with New Orleans and Louisiana that they want to stay here after,” says Dean Douglas.
