If you have a minimum of 60 non-nursing college credits, you may be eligible for our accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (aBSN) program.

With three start dates a year in January, May, and September, you can earn your BSN sooner than you think — in as few as 16 months, not including the time it takes to complete prerequisites. At Tulane University, our team of admission counselors will guide you throughout the admission process, helping you create a personalized academic plan and put your best foot forward.

Our accelerated BSN program uses a hybrid model, where students participate in online coursework and attend on-site nursing skills and simulation experiences, and clinical rotations. This hybrid learning structure allows students to receive a high-quality education in 16 months while providing the vital experiential learning necessary to be prepared for the workforce.

On completing our accelerated BSN program, you will have developed the nursing knowledge and skills necessary to confidently take the Next Generation National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), the last step before earning your nursing license and entering the workforce as a registered nurse.

How Our ABSN Program Works

Our full-time accelerated BSN program’s curriculum is based on direct feedback from registered nurses and healthcare leaders in New Orleans to ensure you receive a relevant and well-rounded education. Online coursework establishes a foundation of nursing theory and concepts. Using the e-learning platform, you can work on coursework anywhere and anytime, as long as you adhere to your class schedule and continue to meet deadlines.

Hands-on nursing skills and simulation experiences provide a safe, risk-free environment where you can practice essential nursing skills and participate in simulated clinical scenarios alongside Tulane medical students.

Clinical rotations at hospitals and clinics in the New Orleans area allow you to gain real-world experience providing direct patient care under the guidance and supervision of healthcare professionals.

Our ABSN Learning Outcomes

Our aBSN program utilizes a holistic approach to support students in delivering nursing care using sound clinical judgment. The program integrates theory and research-backed knowledge from nursing, the arts, humanities, and other sciences.

Students will also acquire the communication skills and mutual respect necessary to work as a team while maintaining ethical and professional behavior across settings and populations. Other student learning outcomes include the ability to:

  • Integrate population health principles and advocate for health promotion, risk reduction, disease prevention and management, and health restoration strategies.
  • Consider and evaluate nursing practice and critically assess and apply research to promote evidence-based practice.
  • Apply quality-improvement principles to support patient care and promote provider and patient safety in the workplace.
  • Understand the system processes, organizational relationships and economic factors that affect health care delivery and outcomes.
  • Use technology to gather data, deliver patient care and accurately document and operate within regulatory standards.
